Congratulations to our Year 8 top project prizewinners:
Gold: Jacob Middleton; Silver: Jordon Brody; Bronze: Kyra Sykes.
Pupils in Year 8 have just completed “Where English and PE Collide”, the homework project for terms 1 and 2. They worked in teams in PE lessons, completing a Sports Leadership course. They had to take on various roles as sports leaders, including managers, media reporters, referees and other roles. They also had to organise various sporting events. For the English part, they had to carry out research on their chosen roles, then write to inform an audience what the roles entailed. They also have to write to review their performance in two roles, and then write a sports report about one of the events they took part in.
There were some excellent responses. Well done Year 8!

This event was held at the Discovery Park, Sandwich and involved a combination of businesses (from robotics to hiring a reindeer), universitities, public services and practical workshops. We took a group of Year nine students in the morning and Year 10 in the afternoon and I am sure that it will have opened their eyes to the career and educational possibilities available to them. The picture shows year 10 pupils outside a ‘Dr Who’ type stall.

‘Musical mad’ students from across the year groups had the opportunity to see Sam Mendes’ lavish production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
The larger than life show with stunning sets and visual special effects cost in excess of 4 million to make and finished with Charlie and Willy Wonka riding high above the audience in a stunning glass elevator.
Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience and although we arrived back at almost midnight everyone agreed it was one of the best shows ever seen!
The next musical theatre trip will be to see Canterbury Operatic’s production of Sweeney Todd at The Marlowe theatre where yours truly will be appearing on stage! More details to follow soon.
