Wow! What a fan­tas­tic turn out for Year 8! The PE and Eng­lish home­work projects this year were stun­ning. It was a real chal­lenge to chose win­ners from such a strong field.

Over the last week in Novem­ber 9SWD ran assem­blies rais­ing aware­ness for the Car­ing for Con­nor Campaign.

Con­nor is a local boy who suf­fers from DMD (Duchenne Mus­cu­lar Dys­tro­phy). Mem­bers of 9SWD sold nearly 300 Car­ing for Con­nor Bands in the run up to Colour for Con­nor and asked all tutor groups for a dona­tion so that they could wear an item of colour. We set our­selves a tar­get of £500
We were absolutely blown away by the response from pupils at King Ethel­bert. On Fri­day 28th Novem­ber the school was awash with colour! Colour­ful socks, ties, hair­bands, train­ers, shoes. Some stu­dents and tutor groups also did their own fundrais­ing activ­i­ties and 23 out of 25 tutor groups donated well over the 50p per per­son we had sug­gested. 7JRB raised nearly £100, as did 9SWD. As mem­bers of 9SWD counted up the money we were moved to tears.

Stu­dents and staff at King Ethel­bert had raised over £1060 pounds for Car­ing for Con­nor and a dona­tion of £100 from a local com­pany took our total to £1160.

On Fri­day 5th Con­nor came into the school with his Mum and Dad to col­lect the cheque and meet 9SWD, who gave him a Christ­mas present. He waved at lessons and popped in to see a few too!
Thank you so much to all staff, stu­dents, par­ents and fam­ily who sup­ported this. It will be a yearly event for us as we try to raise aware­ness and money to help fight for a cure for DMD.

The Great Thanet Cookbook

13 Year 13 stu­dents held their Ser­vice learn­ing project at Quex Barn on the 23rd Novem­ber, with rag­ing suc­cess they are pleased to say they have so far raised over £200 for the char­ity Porchlight.

They did this with the cre­ation of “The Great Thanet Cook­book” which was sold at £5 each at the barn. As well as the book launch there was gin­ger­bread men dec­o­rat­ing, a raf­fle and also deli­cious tasters from the cook­book itself.

The IBCC enti­tles the stu­dents to pro­vide a ser­vice to the com­mu­nity and with what was achieved on Sun­day they have been able to ful­fil their mis­sion state­ment “Embrac­ing cul­tural diver­sity to strengthen com­mu­nity ties whilst inspir­ing gen­er­a­tions through a show­case of what Thanet can accom­plish by shar­ing recipes and stories”,

Pre­sen­ta­tion After­noon 2014

On Wednes­day 19th Novem­ber King Ethel­bert School cel­e­brated the suc­cess and achieve­ment of the last aca­d­e­mic year at their annual Pre­sen­ta­tion After­noon at the Win­ter Gar­dens.
All stu­dents from the school attend this event to cel­e­brate together what King Ethel­bert School has achieved. Mrs Willis, the Deputy Head­teacher, said “We cel­e­brate suc­cess at every level at our school and every­body is part of the school’s con­tin­ued success”.

Par­ents, spe­cial guests and gov­er­nors of the school joined the stu­dents in what was a very inspir­ing after­noon. Nick Ware was the guest speaker. Nick is the school’s PiXL asso­ciate who sup­ports the school with the con­tin­ued aca­d­e­mic suc­cess of the stu­dents at King Ethel­bert. Nick spoke to the stu­dents about ambi­tion, drive and fol­low­ing dreams stat­ing that “hard work will always be rewarded with oppor­tu­ni­ties and success”.
