How are pupils grouped? In Year 10, pupils are grouped into a pathway, according to ability. This is based on each individual's progress and performance in Key Stage 3. The majority of pupils follow Pathway 1. Where pupils may be better suited to an alternative pathway, often embracing a more work-related element as part of their weekly programme, this will be disussed individually with these parents on the consultation day. Below are further details of the three pathways offered at King Ethelbert School: Pathway 1 - (approx. 120 pupils) being predominantly an academic course, enabling pupils to seucre 10 or 11 GCSE (or equivalent) qualifications. Pathway 2 - (approx. 15 pupils) where pupils follow a reduced school curriculum, supporting a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent). Pupils will also take the ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness. ASDAN is a nationally recognised scheme through which pupils can chart a programme of personal development through enhancing key skills, such as communication, literacy, etc. This scheme has a clear link to the development of personal and vocational skills needed for employment. All pupils following this pathway will take BTEC Introductory Art and Design to complement their other studies. Pathway 3 - (approx. 15 pupils) where pupils follow a reduced option timetable, supporting a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent). This pathway will also involve a greater work related element. All pupils following this pathway will tate BTEC Introductory Art and Design to complement their other studies. In Key Stage 4, there are scheduled parents' evenings with staff to discuss individual progress. However, parents are invited to make an appointment if, at any time, they have any concerns regarding the progress of their daughter/son during these important years.
