A group of 17 of our year 11 students recently participated in clearing land for an orchard at Birchington Primary School. Our students have also raised money for various charities and are arranging a 'concert' for students from the Royal School for Deaf Children in Margate. These events demonstrate how much our students do care and can contribute to life in their community. As well as helping local charities our pupils are involved in a number of international initiaitves. Every other year a group of our pupils visit Goa in India to provide funds to an orphanage run by Catholic nuns who support children whose parents have developed AIDS. AIDS is stigmatised in India and this orphanage receives no state funding. 14 of our pupils will be visiting soon and, so far, they have raised £20,000 for this worthy cause. We have recently completed a European funded project with a school in Nord-pas-de-Calais, France to strengthen cross-border co-operation. This was achieved by encouraging excellence through the arts (our french partners). |
