Healthy Eating

King Ethelbert School is fully committed to implementing the National Healthy Schools programme.

The food and drink that you eat is important for two reasons:

  • It can have a direct effect on how you function in the classroom
  • It can influence your health and well-being both now and in the future.

Focus on Food

A national survey of teenagers shows that the most common daily diet for this age comprises of crisps, chocolate, white bread and fizzy drinks.  The problem with such food is that it is overloaded with saturated fat and processed sugar - the main causes of obesity, heart disease and tooth decay.  Many pupils do not eat the quantity of fruit and vegetables that is recommended - 5 portions a day.

Water

Research shows that the body and the brain function much better fully hydrated so the school has a policy of promoting the consumption of drinking water.

  • You are encouraged to consume water throughout the day and are permitted to drink water during lessons.
  • Water containers must be clear with a secure top to prevent spillage.

You can refill water containers at the water fountains before school, at morning break and at lunchtime.
