Mathematics is the means of looking at the patterns that make up our world and the intricate ways in which they are constructed and realised. Numeracy is the means of making that knowledge useful.
The Mathematics department aims to set challenging targets with high expectations for all students, engaging and motivating pupils, demanding their active participation. Mathematics at King Ethelbert School follows the government curriculum guidelines however the department further explores enrichment opportunities outside the curriculum to enhance pupil’s enjoyment of mathematics. Additional Information In Key Stage 3 pupils are taught a variety of aspects incorporating use and application of mathematics, including number and algebra, geometry, co-ordinates and handling data. Pupils have 3 lessons per week and are placed into classes based on ability. Year 9 concludes with a S.A.T examination in Mathematics. In Key stage 4 pupils follow the GCSE AQA specification at either higher or foundation level depending on ability. |
