This course introduces students to the world of construction. The course is taught one day a week at the purpose built Thanet Skills Studio. The course is made of 3 units that everyone takes and 3 specialist units. The specialist units allow students to choose a particular area that they are interested in to study at greater depth.

Core unit: -

• Starting work in construction industry
• Working in construction
• Developing skills and working safely in construction

Specialist units - 2 units from one of the follwing: -

• Personal effectiveness
• Social responsibility at work

Three from the vocational units: -

• Developing trowel skills
• Developing joinery skills
• Developing painting and decorating skills
• Developing building services skills
• Basic building maintenance
• Exploring the built environment

With further training or study, students may progress into careers in the construction industry including: -

• Architecural design
• Surveying
• Carpentry/joinery
• Brickwork
• Site technician
• Decorating
