Motor Vehicles

Motor Vehicle – INSTITUTE OF MOTOR INDUSTRY

This course is split between theory and practical work and is taught at the Thanet Skills Studio.  The students work in a modern, light vehicle workshop and combined training room giving each student the opportunity and support to develop a competent understanding in basic mechanical principles.

The students undertake routine servicing and maintenance procedures on a range of new vehicles provided by Peugeot UK.  In depth ‘hands on’ training also covers major power train and driveline components including a complete engine and transmission strip and rebuild to the manufacturer’s specification.

Students undertake a vocationally related qualification (VRQ) which focuses on performance using practical skills, knowledge and understanding.  This ensures that when the candidate completes the qualification they have gained practical experience and have some expectations of the situations they could face in a real work environment.

If pupils complete the level 1 qualification, they will progress to the level 2 qualification in year 2.

Learners are assessed by written assignments and on-line testing, together with practical assessments.
