The geography department aims to develop successful learners who develop a wide range of skills through its wider range of approaches to learning, including fieldwork, discussion about current issues and use of media. We offer opportunities for pupils to be creative by developing their imaginations of places and investigating and suggesting solutions to local and global issues. We aim to inspire pupils to think about their own place in the world, their values, and their responsibilities to other people, the environment and sustainability.
All Year 7’s currently receive a free OS map as part of the Ordnance Survey Free Maps for Schools initiative. Fieldwork takes place in the local area and beyond as part of KS3 and GCSE. There are plans to introduce residential fieldwork for 2007-8.
At Key Stage 3 students experience a wide range of relevant topics such as Geography of Sport, Resources & Global Warming, Geography of Crime, Globalisation, Fair Trade and Tourism & Sustainability.
At GCSE pupils follow AQA Specification C – an issues based course with relevant topics such as Managing Weather hazards, Managing Water & Food Supplies, Managing Population Change and the Global Environment.
