Following the success of Hey Mr Producer last year was always going to be a massive challenge. We had created a show which students and staff had all loved being part of and were immensely proud of and for months afterwards people were asking ‘how are you going to top that?’. With this question in mind, we set out on a quest to find our next big performance project. Some hours and a few coffees later we came up with a crazy idea which would see 60 performers taking part in an intensive 5 day ‘Fame Academy’- style experience. We wanted them to experience all areas of performing arts and so set about creating a huge programme of events which would involve singers, dancers, actors, musicians, technicians and film crew! We invited professionals from all areas of performance to come and work with the students inspiring them with tasters from Stomp, Wicked, Sweeney Todd, Cats, Circus and steel band skills to name but a few. We even took them all the way to London’s Westend to terrify them with a performance of Woman in Black!
Some of the work was then presented at school on the Friday as a celebration of a week of hard work. Performances took place on the balcony, in the quad and in the hall. There was even a documentary made of the whole week and a film shot on location at Reculver! We had enormous amounts of fun putting it together and the performers overcame many challenges to present their work. A special mention must also go to the technical and film crew all worked tirelessly to make the showcase looked and sounded brilliant! Thank you to the wonderful performing arts staff who have all worked so hard with the students throughout this project.
