Over the last week in November 9SWD ran assemblies raising awareness for the Caring for Connor Campaign.
Connor is a local boy who suffers from DMD (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy). Members of 9SWD sold nearly 300 Caring for Connor Bands in the run up to Colour for Connor and asked all tutor groups for a donation so that they could wear an item of colour. We set ourselves a target of £500
We were absolutely blown away by the response from pupils at King Ethelbert. On Friday 28th November the school was awash with colour! Colourful socks, ties, hairbands, trainers, shoes. Some students and tutor groups also did their own fundraising activities and 23 out of 25 tutor groups donated well over the 50p per person we had suggested. 7JRB raised nearly £100, as did 9SWD. As members of 9SWD counted up the money we were moved to tears.
Students and staff at King Ethelbert had raised over £1060 pounds for Caring for Connor and a donation of £100 from a local company took our total to £1160.
On Friday 5th Connor came into the school with his Mum and Dad to collect the cheque and meet 9SWD, who gave him a Christmas present. He waved at lessons and popped in to see a few too!
Thank you so much to all staff, students, parents and family who supported this. It will be a yearly event for us as we try to raise awareness and money to help fight for a cure for DMD.
Thank you
