Close Up and Natural

This project will be based on the natural world, looking at the forms, patterns and beauty of nature. You will investigate the different techniques used by artists, to record this theme. You will be required to make a final outcome, based on your research and designs. Within the unit you will explore a wide range of techniques, improving your skills,. In recent years this project has resulted in a pottery final piece.

DRAWING, PAINTING, COLLAGE, TEXTILES, DRY POINT ETCHING, LINO PRINT, PHOTOGRAPHY, BATIK, COLLAGRAPH AND CERAMICS

Viewpoints, Landscape or Self Portrait

This project will allow you more control of your work. It makes you follow a line of visual enquiry. You will be required to research artists, that have inspired your work and produce a varied portfolio of experimental coursework. This visual journey will then result in final pieces, of your choosing, within the set theme.

Confident Expressive Work

Both projects will be based on a theme and you will be researching contemporary and historical artists for inspiration to help you create personal, thought provoking art . You will explore the different use of materials, techniques and processes. You will then be given the opportunity to make final pieces based on your research and designs. We expect your work to be exhibited in school, in local exhibitions and we enter students in national competitions.

UNIT 2 EXTERNALLY SET TASK

(120 MARKS 40% OF FINAL GRADE)

Question papers are issued in January (in year 11). The Eduqas set question paper has approximately 7 different starting points or themes. These usually cover a range of techniques including painting, ceramics, mixed media, fashion, culturally diverse art, textiles, 3D sculptural design etc. Students then choose one question to develop over 3 months.

You will sit a 10 hour exam over two days (two full days in school working on your exam) executing a final piece planned in the prior 3 months. The supporting work and final piece is combined towards 40% of the overall grade.
