BTEC Applied Science covers all three science specialisms
There are different streams available for students to follow:
Applied Science (mixture of all sciences)
Analytical & Forensic Science
Physical Science (predominantly physics)
Biomedical Science
Extended Diploma and Foundation Diploma pathways offered
Maximum UCAS points for Extended Diploma = 168 (D*D*D*)
Note: 3 x A* at A Level = 168 UCAS points
In Y12 all of the students complete the same units, no matter which stream they have chosen. In Y13 the students complete more specific optional units based around their stream of choice. We are able to tailor this offer for our individual student aspirations.
UNIT 2: Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques
UNIT 3: Scientific Investigation Skills (exam)
UNIT 4: Laboratory Techniques and their Application
UNIT 6: Investigative Project
+ 2 x Optional units
UNIT 5: Principles and Applications of Science II (exam)
UNIT 7: Contemporary Issues in Science (exam)
+ 4 x Optional units
Note: Optional units are voted for by students and are also governed by the scientific stream selected.
Below is a selection of some of the popular optional units:
UNIT 8: Physiology of Human Body Systems
UNIT 14: Applications of Organic Chemistry
